Truth & Temptation is the long awaited story of Teagan, the less than pleasant friend from the previous Summer Love books Rock & Release and Surf & Surrender. You know, the one who makes us wonder, "What the heck is HER problem?!". Well, now we finally get into Teagan's mind--and what a fascinatingly broken and beautiful place it is!We've all wondered about the seemingly irrational bursts of anger that make Teagan explode at the drop of a hat. At least, I know I've certainly been intrigued. In my experience, very few people are that blindly and startlingly furious without some sort of back story. Turns out? Teagan is actually quite cognizant of her anger management issues.
"My jokes about my sex life might kill Cassidy, but this? This cycle of meaningless anger I can't find my way out of is what's killing me."
Curiouser and curiouser. The question remains (even, it would seem, in Teagan's own mind): WHY is Teagan so disturbed? We know Teagan's grandparents, with whom she has lived her entire life, are huge jerks. And, obviously, that could cause some emotional issues (I know it'd make me a bit unpleasant and unstable to be treated like she is on a daily basis). But still...there's a piece of the puzzle still missing.
"Sometimes it's like I'm only a projection of myself. Like the real me actually lives inside my brain, rattling around in there, pounding to get out."
Enter Alec (nee Frank), the sexy man she meets in a bar and decides to have a "Before I Begin My New Life" chapter closing fling with. The lifestyle and socio-economic differences between Teagan and Alec are immediately apparent.
"This guy has a driver? God. The closest I've ever come to having a driver is when my car breaks down again and I have to ride with a tow-truck driver to the repair shop."
Beyond the status differences though, there's just...something about Alec that is different. Something that, while stirring and challenging the defensive part of Teagan also sparks a heat of an entirely different nature--a fire that no one else has managed to stoke.
"The worst is when he catches me and I look away immediately, because I freaking hate looking away, hate giving him that power. But he's got something in his stare that startles my system. Makes my skin flush and my chin go up, even though I can't maintain eye contact."
It turns out that, rather than being a chapter closer (or maybe in addition to?), Alec ends up being that catalyst that opens up some very interesting chapters in the book of Teagan. He unlocks something within her that nobody else has been able to reach, and when he does? It will take your breath away.
"He tastes like mint and whiskey.
He smells like soap and leather.
He feels like home. Like trust."
What I loved most about this installment in the Summer Love series was how Riley Edgewood managed to show not just the beauty and chemistry of the relationship between Teagan and Alec (because, really, that's essential in any romance, right?), but the way she perfectly captures the inner turmoil and emotions that go along with mental illness of any kind. And best of all? She shows us that even an imperfect heroine can find her fairytale happily ever after. As a reader, that means more to me than anything else. Because it makes it heartbreakingly real. After all, aren't we all a little imperfect?

I love love love Riley's books and her writing and the way she manages to pull me right with her characters.
I loved her first book, I fell hard and fast and I still haven't recovered for her second book, Surf & Surrender (which by the way you should really read), but this one hit me right into the heart.
Teagan. There's so much to say about Teagan, about her issues and her strength and her need for love...
Alec. Alec is..hmmm what's the word for Alec? Amazing maybe? Considerate, hot, confident but yet vulnerable? That's a lot of words but Alec deserves a lot of words.
Their story is a Love story.
And there are so many surprises in this book that I can't reveal because I don't want to spoil them, but let me just say, my jaw dropped to the floor.
Truth & Temptation is everything I love in a book and it's even more, it touches upon a topic that is a difficult one but it does it with such sincerity because Teagan is a fully-fledged character that comes into your heart.
Oh and there are hot and steamy scenes too. Yes. Hot. Hot. Hot.
Basically you really want to pick this book up.
Okay, I have a big proclamation to make...I think this might be my new favorite NA book! I wasn't sure Riley could make me love Teagan after the way she acted in Rock & Release, but I was totally wrong. I freaking LOVED Teagan. For one thing, she is hilarious. Her voice had me cracking up throughout the book. Plus she's fierce as hell. She always speaks her mind and doesn't back down and I loved that about her. Yes, she can be sort of a bitch sometimes (which she admits), but her backstory gives you a lot of insight as to why. I also thought Riley did a great job tackling Teagan's mental health issues in a believable and realistic way. I loved Alec too - how can you not, when he's rich, gorgeous, and just enough of an alpha to make you swoon without being a jerk? And when these two get together, there are some serious sparks - both in bed and out. I loved their banter and the way they helped each other become better people. Definitely check this one out!
Riley Edgewood has created another fun and tempting novel.
Teagan is terribly self-conscious and insecure due to her horrible home life and life experiences to date. While being a self-proclaimed "bitch" she still manages to be likeable and relatable. Her struggles with everyday issues grip at the readers heart. Teagan's growth and self-discovery is truly my favorite part of the story.
Alec, a self-proclaimed nerd who has demons of his own is charismatic and endearing. While he makes mistakes (don't we all) his sincerity and unwillingness to give up on what he wants is irresistible.
Edgewood has used this novel to bring awareness to how learning disabilities can affect a person's personality. Additionally, her promotion of getting help for mental health issues is something that more authors need to do.
I highly recommend Truth and Temptation to people who want and engaging, entertaining, and uplifting story of young love.
At first I wasn't sure I was going to like Teagan but she won me over very quickly & I liked her, could really relate to her and she made me LOL at times with her thoughts or what came out of her mouth. And Alec? Who wouldn't love Alec - super rich, hot, smart, yet down to earth & so good for Teagan. The story was unique yet believable, the characters were real and made you root for them to have a HEA. I read this book in 1 day, that's how drawn into the story I was & anxious to see where it took the characters. I would have liked to see a little more closure at the end but am hoping to be able to download the bonus content with the epilogue. The one other time I tried to do something like this I was never able to actually receive what author e-mailed me.
